Which is better sounding as far as sound quality goes .mp3 or aac?

these formats and sampling rates and bit rates are what my player can handle it is only a 4GB player and my whole collection will not fit on it in LPCM obviously.
For me aac works perfectly fine and the sound quality is pretty much the same compared to even some 320kps songs I got. It takes up less space than mp3s so it's a plus either way, but the only problem is it takes ages converting each one to be aac.
