Math Design (Measurments+Trig)?
A swimming pool is to be 50 m by 21 m. The deep end if 4.0 m deep and extends out 12 m. The shallow end is 1.2 m deep and extends out 12 m. There is a uniform slope connecting the deep and shallow ends.
a)Calculate the cost of filling the pool with water as $2.00 per m3.
b)Waterproofing of the underwater surfaces costs $17’m2. Determine the cost of waterproofing.
The cross-sectional area can be broken into three pieces. First, a 12 m by 4 m rectangle with area of 48 m^2. Second, a trapezoid 26 m wide with bases of 4 m and 1.2 m, with area 67.6 m^2. Third, a 12 m by 1.2 m rectangle with area of 14.4 m^2. The total cross-sectional area is 130 m^2.
Th volume of the pool is 2730 m^3. The cost to fill the pool would be $5460
The length along the bottom of the pool is about 50.15 m, so the area of the bottom is 1053 m^2. The area of each of the sides is 130 m^2. The area of the deep end is 84 m^2 and the area of the shallow end is 25.2 m^2. The total surface area to waterproof is 1422.2 m^2. The cost would be about $24,177.
