Will it cause a "new generation of latchkey kids"?
This new announcement about mum's of over 12's not being allowed to claim income support anymore in favour of JSA and encouragement to seek work?
I'm not sure it will, what with the tax credits system and things like after school clubs, I am sure many more mum's will be able to find work to suit.
I was left at home alone (to cook the tea) age 12 and my partner's son is 13 and is at home on his own for a couple of hours after school - there's no problem with that if you have raised your kids right.
We knew we weren't to go out and knew who to contact in an emergency
I was also left at 12 to look after my younger sisters, during the school holidays.
There is no excuse for single mums of older children not to work, I was on income support for a year and it was shite, I was much better off financially when working, even with a crappy minimum wage job.
