How can I get songs off of an old MP3 player and into itunes?
I have an old Creative Nomad Zen Xtra 30 GB and I just bought a new 160 GB iPod. However, I can't get my songs off the creative and into itunes. When I try to copy and paste out of the creative into a folder, it won't put in two songs with the same name such as Creep by Radiohead and Creep by Stone Temple Pilots. Any advice you can give me as to a special folder that will recognize different songs by the same name, or a way iTunes can import etc. would be greatly appreciated.
First, attach the Nomad to your computer with a USB cable. If any software automatically starts when you do this, Quit out of that software.
Navigate to "My Computer" and open the device the way it has been mounted as if it were a flash drive or an external hard disk.
Work your way through the directory tree you find there and copy the MP3 files onto your computer's hard drive. You should be able to copy the entire directory structure, so similar song names will copy successfully by using the same location or naming convention that the MP3 player used.
Once you've copied the songs onto your hard drive, you should be able to import them into iTunes normally -- just drag the highest level folder into the iTunes window, or use the "Add to Library" option in the Edit menu.
